And I say 4 stars. I thought this was a very well written ‘YA’ novel, in that it covered some big issues but managed to avoid posting any flashing lights saying ‘BIG ISSUE BEING DISCUSSED HERE’. I thought the sense of period and place was very well evoked, and I like the way the world of the principal character (whose name I’ve already forgotten, shame on me) was put in very sensory terms – it was all about smells and sounds and colours, which are the main components of most of my childhood memories. So well done that Ursula woman.
